The Role of Arts in Peacebuilding in Yemen
About Reference
This report explores the crucial role of the arts in fostering peace and social healing in Yemen amidst ongoing conflict and societal fragmentation. Despite the devastating war and restrictions on freedom of expression, Yemeni artists – including painters, musicians, poets, and actors – persist in using creative expression to inspire hope, document the realities of war, and build narratives of peace. The study highlights how art serves as a powerful tool for mental health recovery, community trust-building, and the preservation of collective memory. It argues that art extends beyond aesthetics, offering a dynamic, grassroots-driven alternative to traditional peacebuilding approaches constrained by political and institutional limitations.
