About Activity
The Youth Without Borders for Development (YWBOD) organization, in partnership with the Taiz Development Network, Adwar Organization for Youth Development, and Siraj Organization for Development, had initiated a training course in sewing and embroidery for 15 young women. This was done as part of the "Youth Relying on Themselves" project, funded by the Canadian Local Initiatives Support Fund (CLFI) and the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. The project aimed to reduce poverty and unemployment rates among youth in Taiz by engaging them in economic activities that provide them with job opportunities to be self-reliant and participate in public life.
Activity Results
It is worth mentioning that the project went through several phases. The first phase was the preparation and inauguration of a sewing workshop equipped with all the necessary tools and equipment. This was then followed by the training of 15 young women in sewing and embroidery, so that they could work in the workshop and produce items to meet the demands of the local market, providing them with a source of income.
After that, the capabilities of 15 young men and women were built in marketing skills, and they were involved in the project by marketing the products of the production workshop. They worked on marketing these products in the city's districts and the rural districts of Taiz Governorate. Subsequently, an exhibition of the workshop's products was held in order to introduce the workshop and market its products.
As an initial phase of the project, 30 young men and women were employed. This enabled these young people to be self-reliant, earn an income, and stay away from illegal behaviors. It is expected that the project will be expanded in a second phase in the future, by targeting other governorates to sell and distribute the products of the production workshop.
